1) My legs/core/hip/bum area are sooo messed up. Every time the PT tells me to do something, she watches and her mouth just drops to the floor. For example, she asked me to do a lunge last week. I am really good at instruction so I did. She looked at me and said, 'seriously?' I was like, 'what?' So she made me go stand in front of the mirror and asked me to do another lunge. She said, 'what do you see?' and I said 'nothing'. She was like, 'ok, do it again, but keep your knee in line with your hip'. So I did. I got a 'Seriously?' again! She said, 'do it again. Keep your right knee in line with your right hip and your left hip in line with your right hip'. I did and my mouth dropped!! It was hard and painful!!! Basically, when I did lunges prior to PT fixing I would turn my right knee in so that it was pretty much in line with my left hip, aka crossing in front of my body. When she asked me to keep my knee in front of my right hip, my left hip tried to compensate for the keeping the knee out and I dipped it so that I could move my right hip back. All of my years of practicing my runway walk have really paid off... in that I lunge/run like a runway diva.
I'm now working on un-diva-ing myself... which will be hard... but worth it!! :)
2) I was called aggressive the other day by said PT but I believe just before she called me aggressive, she referred to me as a big wimp. I walked into PT on a Tuesday and she looked at my knee and said, 'what in the world?'
That red spot on my knee was beginning to heal. Nate and I had gone mountain biking on a Sunday and I was feeling really confident. I got myself up on a big rock and instead of getting myself off of the big rock as smoothly as getting on, I rolled off the rock onto another somewhat pointy rock, went over my handlebars and scraped my knee on who knows what and into a nasty, smelly, dirty pond. Then later in that ride, I rode right off a bridge into another nasty, smelly, dirty pond and had to get a picture of my legs to send to my friend because they were dirty (this was the clean leg). Then on Thursday, she was finishing up ultrasound on my bursa (b/c I do have bursitis too), and was like, 'you haven't been foam rolling have you?' <-- "YOU ARE A WIMP". I said, no, I haven't been doing foam rolling because if I can avoid pain, I will and foam rolling is extremely painful so why in the world would I just volunteer to do it. She then rolled a table over and made some comment that was along of the lines of "I'll give you a reason to foam roll". On the table were these shiny tools and she said, 'this is the graston technique'. She then started working and I grabbed a towel and bit it for the next 5-10 minutes.... I do not know how long because I think I passed out a little. The aggressive comment came out when she was like, 'your whole thigh may bruise but you are aggressive so it might not bruise', but then she looked at the rest of my legs (still healing from earlier mountain biking trip) and said, 'yeah, you are going to bruise'.
3) I did get to go back to the doctor to reevaluate the hip situation. It was feeling great on that day and so we made a plan of attack on how to keep feeling great and maybe start running eventually. I may get to run starting in July. I have to walk 1/2 mile to warm up my legs and then I can run 3/4 of a mile ONLY if it doesn't hurt while running. I have to keep doing all my exercises. Nate thinks I should buy a sweatband and some rainbow socks for my lunge days. I have to heat before exercises and ice afterwards. I only say may because I did run about 20 feet on Saturday because it started to downpour while I was walking the dogs, I surfed for about an hour on Saturday, surfed for two hours on Sunday, and played in the ocean a bit Sunday afternoon and when I went to do my exercises on Sunday night, it didn't feel as awesome as it was before Saturday morning. That being said, when I go into PT on Tuesdays, my hip doesn't feel awesome but then by Thursday it feels great. If I'm seeing a pattern, I would say that I do a bit too much on the weekends and let it rest through the week. Which if I start running, it won't be resting... so... we'll see!! I do know that I signed up for two runs this summer way back in March and both of those runs have past now and I'm still not running... and not too happy that I spent that money... lesson learned!!!
I'm going to keep on keeping on and at some point if it feels strong enough, I'll put on my little underused running shoes and hit the pavement. Until then, I'll just grab my overused swimsuit and bike and keep going with the flow.
